Monthly Archives: October 2009
A funny video reminding us of a very significant period of time in Christian history. October 31st might be Halloween to many, but for a few it is a reminder of the significance of Sola Scriptura.
One of our goals at Vann Avenue Baptist Church is to learn from Scripture what God has to say about being a Biblical man and a Biblical woman. One can be assured that the teaching in our public schools and universities does not have this as it’s goal. In one of the latest issues of Time magazine, The State of the American Woman, the progress of the American woman was reflected upon. How are we as Christians to think about this? Are we as Christians to think about this? I believe so. We all know individuals in our families, jobs, and communities who have been influenced by the feminist agenda over the last few decades. In fact, maybe even we have been influenced by it and not realize it. Check out this short video response and see if you had some of their same thoughts. Maybe you will begin to see the world with fresh biblical eyes (Romans 12:2).
As parents I believe we have a tendency to think of our kids when we think of first importance. For others it might be a job or a team that comes to mind when the idea of first importance is brought up. However, Paul was clear in his letter to the Corinthians when he said, “For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. (1 Corinthians 15:3-5).” For Paul the gospel was of first importance. For us to view our children, work, or any extra activity the way God intends us to view them, we must also affirm the gospel as of first importance in our lives. If you are like me you need a reminder. I encourage you to check out this website, Of First Importance, and consider subscribing. This is a great way to begin each day focused on the gospel.
